Nature provides us with amazingly vibrant colored produce. Why look to chemicals and artificial dyes to make our food look more appealing? Because the food that artificial dyes go into are usually so overly processed and low on key nutrients that they would be a dusty shade of grey without it. It’s added to make bad “food” appear more appealing and food like.
This is what pure, organic, freshly squeezed Grapefruit juice looks like. No additives, no preservatives, chemicals or man-made manufactured somethings. We make this fresh in our home multiple times a week and to me, there could be no more perfect shade of pink. Who needs fake and dangerous chemical dyes and overly processed foods with beautiful, nutritious, ready to eat food from nature? These unnatural additives have grave dangers, including tumor formation and cancer. That sounds a big warning to someone like me dealing with breast tumor. Luckily I keep to a very mandatory strict diet as to avoid these things.
Europe seems to be ahead of us on this issue. A few years back, I wrote a paper on the differences between the U.S. and European Union food systems and while there is still a ways to go in terms of level of safety, Europe is kicking our you know whats. Check out the comparison of a common processed food item in the U.S. and Britain.
As you can see, the product from Britain is colored naturally using beetroot and other spices. So why the need for chemicals if it’s absolutely unnecessary? “Saving money” and “feeding the masses” by using cheap harmful ingredients is fueling health epidemics in our country. See the Center for Science in the Public Interest for more here.
I don’t remember the last time I consumed products containing artificial dyes, so I guess I can thank my food allergies and Celiac disease for being blessings in disguise. Buying whole fruits and veggies, whole alternative grains (such as quinoa, buckwheat, brown rice, wild rice), seeds like sunflower, sesame, and nuts if you can tolerate them, is a sure fire way to avoid not only these evil buggers but a slew of other unnatural additives and processed junk. Keep it simple sweetheart, your body will thank you and most likely so will your life expectancy. And let’s be honest. No one likes dealing with that junk-fooded-out overly hyper wild red-headed neighbor kid that runs through your house and sprays your dog with the sprinkler…..lay off the food colorants!
